Charlotte Riordon, President
Charlotte Riordon is a Registered Nurse (RN) living in the Fredericton area. As an RN, her background is in obstetrics and public health. Currently, Charlotte works as a Labour & Delivery/Maternity nurse. Charlotte went to St. Francis Xavier University where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2015) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2018). During her time at St.FX she was heavily involved in research on infant cognition and development and completed an honours research project investigating public health reform and its impact on population health outcomes. Charlotte is passionate about working with young families in New Brunswick and strives to address health inequities in her practice. Charlotte has been a member of the PHA NBPEI board since 2019. Roles & Responsibilities: The President is responsible for overseeing the organization's strategic direction, representing the association in public forums, advocating for public health policies, and fostering partnerships with other organizations. |
Marjorie Allison-Ross, Secretary
Marjorie Allison-Ross, BN, retired from Horizon Health Network in October 2013 after a 37 year nursing career. For 33 of those years, she worked as a Public Health Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, and Regional Team Manager in Health Region 3. Early in her career, she spent 2 years working in acute care followed by 2 years as a lecturer in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick, where she received her nursing degree in 1976. Marjorie has been very active in the NB-PEI Public Health Association, including various positions on the board, since she became a member in 1985. In retirement, Marjorie maintains her interest in Public Health with a special focus on the Ecological Determinants of Health and Social Justice. Roles & Responsibilities The Secretary is responsible for recording meeting minutes, managing all of the association's archives and records, and managing the e-mail account and mailing lists. |
Faye Skaarup, Membership/Treasurer
Faye Skaarup, BN, MAOM, retired from Horizon Health Network in 2013 as a Director of Public Health for Fredericton and the Upper River Valley. Faye graduated from Dalhousie University with a Basic Degree in Nursing, and from the University of Phoenix, Colorado Springs with a Master of Arts in Organizational Management. Most of her career has been in the field of Public Health. She has worked at various locations across Canada, Canadian Forces Base Lahr, Germany, and El Paso County, Colorado. Roles & Responsibilities: The membership chair of the Public Health Association of NB & PEI is responsible for managing the association's membership program, ensuring accurate membership records, communicating with members about events and initiatives, and promoting membership growth. The Treasurer is responsible for managing all of the organization's finances and reporting on this annually. She also manages membership fee collection and aids the Secretary with membership-related tasks. |

Dr. Cristin Muecke, MD, MSc, FRCPC
Cristin Muecke joined the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness in 2022 as Regional Medical Officer of Health for North Zone. Prior to this she held the position of Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health for the New Brunswick Department of Health since 2016 (acting since 2106, appointed in 2018). Between 2013 and 2018, she held the position of Medical Officer of Health for Provincial Programs. She was the Regional Medical Officer of Health for Central Region (Fredericton and Upper River Valley) for 8 years (2005-2013). She obtained her medical degree at Dalhousie University and specialized in Public Health and Preventive Medicine (including a Masters degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics) at McGill University. She has been actively involved with various professional associations and societies including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Public Health Physicians of Canada, the New Brunswick Medical Society, and the Public Health Association of New Brunswick and PEI. She is current a member of the Advisory Board for the National Collaborating Center for Environmental Health. |
Angela Hache
Angela Hache is a Registered Nurse who originates from Bathurst, NB and is currently working for New Brunswick’s Department of Health where she had been since 2021. Angela obtained her BScN from UPEI in 2004, where she then began her nursing career in the Women and Children’s Health program at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. In 2006, she moved back to NB and joined the Neonatal Intensive Care program at The Moncton Hospital before moving to the Fredericton area in 2010 to join Horizon Public Health. Angela has also held her CNA certification in Community Health Nursing since 2013 and obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Memorial University in 2021. Angela’s professional interests include women and children’s health, sexual health, and building healthy public policy. |
Christine de Jong
Christine de Jong, BN, BEd, MEd, retired from Horizon Health Network in March 2012. At the time of retirement she was Director of the Extra-Mural Program for Fredericton and Upper River Valley, and Regional Director of Population Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Management. Christine has held such positions as Director of Public Health Services for Region 3; Liaison Officer/Consultant, Hospital Services, NB Department of Health; and was a Director, Unit Manager, and Manager of Education Services at the Extra-Mural Hospital. She has also worked briefly as a Consultant for the Public Health Agency of Canada. Since retirement Chris has worked on a casual basis as a Clinical Instructor for community nursing courses at UNB and has done some contract work related to policy development. |
Paula Baker
Paula Baker is a Registered Nurse with her Bachelor who works for Horizon Health as the Public Health Director for Fredericton and the Upper River Valley. Paula graduated in 1987 from the University of New Brunswick and started her career at the Saint John Regional Hospital working in Urology and the Pediatric Units. She moved in 1988 to work in Labour and Delivery and the Surgical Unit in Perth Andover Hotel Dieu Hospital. Later that same year Paula accepted a position for a Public Health Nurse in the Upper River Valley. In 2001 Paula moved to the Fredericton Area and has continued in Public Health working in the various programs that Public Health offered until 2009 when she joined the Management team during H1N1. She accepted the Acting Director’s position in November 2017 and was offered the permanent position as Director in June of 2018. Her passion has been working with the population’s health in an upstream focus. Prevention and Health Promotion considering the determinants of health to improve health outcomes within our communities.

Folasade Ofurune, MPH
Folasade Ofurune is a frontline development worker with over 18 years generalist experience in public health and education including maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition and infectious diseases, rural health and sexual and reproductive health. Throughout her career, Sade Ofurune has focused on delivering health care education to the most underserved population, improving the quality of care across a continuum of services, from community-based health workers to hospital-level care and scaling up effective interventions to save lives. She has a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at Walden University, Minneapolis, USA. And she is currently doing her PhD in Public Health-Epidemiology also at Walden University. She is an active member of many honors and professional associations including the American and Canadian Public Health Associations, Research gate, Epidemic Research Group Oxford (ERGO). She is a nominated member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS)-Sigma Pi, USA and Honor member of Golden Key International Honors Society (GK), USA. Folasade currently serves as member of Board of Directors of the Public Health Association of New Brunswick and Prince Edwards Island. |
Alie Ross, MPH RN BN BScHK
Alie Ross is a Registered Nurse who currently works at Public Health in Zone 3 in the Immunization Program. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics from St. Francis Xavier University in 2008, a Master of Public Health from Memorial University in 2010, and a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick in 2015. Alie began her nursing career at the Upper River Valley Hospital in 2015 and has experience working on medical-surgical, long term care, labour and birth and maternity units, as well as in the prenatal clinic. From July 2019 - November 2020, she was the Infection Prevention & Control Professional covering the Upper River Valley Area of Zone 3. Her professional interests include community development and partnership building, the social determinants of health, and maternal and child health.

Dr. Susan Hartley, PhD, Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Susan Hartley is a Clinical Psychologist (U Waterloo), social justice advocate, and a Global Peace Scholar. In addition to offering psychological support in her private practice Susan has taken her interest and passion for children's rights and gender equity into policy development and consultation, politics, teaching, and advocacy. She was the Health and Wellness Critic for the Green Party of PEI from 2016-2019 and has authored many opinion pieces on the social determinants of health, mental health, and public health issues such as poverty and food insecurity. As a Global Peace Scholar, Susan co-ordinated the Women's Peace Tables in 2016, an initiative which strives to bring more women to the decision making tables, highlighting the need for decisions that are made for women, by women. She has most recently completed research and policy development related to maternal mental health care and Health in All Policies. In addition to PHANB & PEI, Susan is a Director on the Board of the Atlantic Summer Institute for Health and Safe Communities, a member of the PEI Working Group for a Livable Income and is the PEI representative on the Atlantic Brain Builders. She is a sessional instructor within the Doctoral program in Psychology at UPEI. |
